Dr. Matthew Calestino received his MS and MD degrees from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Maarten, N.A. in 2000. He completed a Transitional Year Internship and a Categorical Internal Medicine Residency at Providence Hospital & Medical Centers in Southfield, MI in 2005. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. During his career, Dr. Calestino has provided services to patients as a hospitalist and a primary care physician. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP) since 2011, and after founding the North Florida Chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) in 2018, he was advanced to Senior Fellow of SHM. He became an Assistant Professor of Clinical Internal Medicine for the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and has served as the Program Director for the UCF COM/ HCA Healthcare Transitional Year Residency at HCA Florida-North Florida Hospital since 2017. In 2023, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at his ala mater, the The University of Rhode Island. He enjoys mentoring medical students & residents while conducting population-based cancer research. His passion is patient safety. In his spare time, he enjoys composing music, cooking, and travelling with his wife & family.
